![]() Chicago has a long history of spawning dark, edgy music and Brother John is no exception. Drawing inspiration from their surroundings, Chicago's Brother John uses the blues as a jumping off point, just as the English architects of rock did thirty-some years ago, and melds it with other unlikely influences to create something very loud, heavy and unforgettable. Brother John connects the dots between late 60's English blues, early 70's hard rock, East Coast avant-noise, and 90's grunge to form a cohesive sound that isn't afraid to go off in tangents but never forgets the melody. Menich's fascination with Middle Eastern classical music and dissonance/feedback adds dimension and depth to the music. Reamer's lyrics explore our everyday existence and deliver the melodies with a forthright power and authority more akin to a field-holler than a rock vocal. Kouba and Unger provide the engine that propels this thing forward with thoughtful precision yet always teetering on the edge of chaos. All four musicians are well seasoned veterans of the Chicago music scene and put all that experience to good use. Live shows are always an event; visceral, cathartic, and brimming with energy and spontaneity. Live shows must be experienced to be believed. Attend a show and you will walk away a believer that these four guys just gave you everything they had and loved every minute of it. For them playing music is not just something they like to do, it's a necessity. If that's not enough, Brother John donates 100% of band profits from shows to charity. |
